Welcome to the JRock-n-Run Homepage

Jordan Scott Paganelli died on Monday, November 9, 2009 after a 23-month battle with a rare, aggressive form of cancer called Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma. He died peacefully at home - 5 days prior to his 18th birthday.

One of ways we have chosen to keep his memory alive is by hosting an annual event within the community that captures the essence of Jordan's 3 passions: Running, Music, and Friendship. Jordan's friends nicknamed him "JRock" because of his incomprehensible courage, strength, and grace under pressure. As a result, we have proudly named our event the "JRock-n-Run."

The 1st Annual JRock-n-Run in 2010 was a tremendous success and was attended by over 1500 people. In 2011, the event was held for the second year at the same location - the Historic Sotterley Plantation in Hollywood, Maryland - on Saturday, November 5th. We'll be scheduling the event again for 2012.

Our vision was to create a festive annual event that serves to honor Jordan and his memory while raising awareness for Sarcoma/Cancer and providing an opportunity for people of ALL ages to challenge themselves morally, mentally, and physically. Our event features a 5k Trail Run and a 1.5k Fun Walk that are designed to encourage everyone to participate in a spirited physical activity while attempting to achieve PERSONAL goals that they have set for themselves. Following the races, we will continue to enjoy the evening with what we are calling "Jordan Palooza" - a festive LIFE CELEBRATION featuring live music, good food, and fun activities for the entire family. Our idea is simple: to remember Jordan's passion for running while bringing the community together in a way that is fun and uplifting.

Jordan Scott Paganelli was just a few days from turning 18 years of age when he died
on November 9, 2009 after courageously battling a rare form of cancer for some 23 months.

Meet Jordan Scott Paganelli

This website is dedicated to Jordan with special gratitude for his courageous life and the many memories that he has left for his family and friends. We have chosen to keep his memory alive through this website and by conducting a festive annual 5K Trail Run and 1.5K Fun Walk.
This event is also an opportunity to honor Jordan's memory while raising awareness for Sarcoma/Cancer and to provide an opportunity for people of ALL ages to challenge themselves morally, mentally, and physically.

Background

Jordan's fight began on January 11, 2008 when he was diagnosed with Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma (ARMS) (pronounced: Rab-doe-my-o-sar-co-ma) stage IV.
What's Rhabdomyosarcoma (i.e.: Rhabdo and/or ARMS)?
Rhabdomyosarcoma (Alveolar subtype) is:
  • A very aggressive, highly malignant soft-tissue Sarcoma which arises in undifferentiated muscle cells anywhere in the body.
  • The most aggressive childhood cancer; however, it strikes adults and teens as well.
  • Strikes at least 350 kids in the US each year.
  • Unlike more common cancers, ARMS is considered rare and thus receives minimal outside funding for research (causing the 5 year survival rate to be low).
  • Often has spread to other areas of the body by the time a diagnosis is determined. When a disease spreads, it is labeled a “meta-static” disease.
  • The 5 year survival rate for ARMS patients whose disease has become meta-static is approximately 20%.
Did you know?
  • Each school day, 46 children are diagnosed with cancer.
  • One in 330 children will develop cancer by age 20.
  • Cancer remains the number one disease killer of America’s children- more than Cystic Fibrosis, Muscular Dystrophy, Asthma, and AIDS combined.
  • Rhabdomyosarcoma accounts for approximately 3.5% of the cases of cancer among children aged 0-14 years and 2% of the cases among adolescents and young adults aged 15-19 years.

In November 2009, Jordan was fondly remembered by family and friends following his death as seen in this video tribute to Jordan.
